Who We Are

MarraMarra Gallery is a proudly Aboriginal-owned, multi-clan gallery based on Boon Wurrung and Yorta Yorta Country in Victoria.

Founded and operated by families connected to the Gunditjmara, Gunnai, Yorta Yorta, Waradgerie, Boon Wurrung, and Tiwi Nations, our gallery is a space where cultural strength, creativity, and family come together.

We carry the stories of our ancestors and the hopes of our future generations. Our name, MarraMarra, which means - Create, Make, Do - reflects the unity of many clans walking together — through art, culture, and truth.

Our Purpose

We are here to empower our people through art, education, and cultural exchange.  At MarraMarra, we honour the authenticity, integrity, and diversity of our culture by creating pathways for our artists, youth, and Elders to lead. Through everything we do, we support:

  • Cultural pride and revitalisation

  • Training and employment for our family groups

  • Truth-telling through creative expression

  • Family-led economic development

What We Do

MarraMarra is more than a gallery — it’s a living cultural hub.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in original artworks, engage in interactive workshops and storytelling events, and connect directly with the artists who bring culture to life.

  • Workshops and Cultural Education

  • Artist Talks and Yarns

  • Training for Youth in Art, Retail & Tourism

Why It Matters

Art is a bridge between people around the world.  By supporting our family of artists and creating opportunities for cultural expression, MarraMarra contributes to healing, empowerment, and economic independence.  We are building a model where culture is not just preserved — it thrives.

Through MarraMarra, we aim to:

  • Increase Aboriginal visibility in tourism, arts, and events

  • Share stories of Country with respect and depth

  • Deliver real outcomes for our people

  • Inspire pride in family and connection across generations

Our Governance and Family Leadership

MarraMarra is led by Aboriginal families with strong cultural authority and focus.

We are governed by a multi-clan structure that reflects our true connections — not imposed boundaries. Decisions are made through a collective approach grounded in kinship, cultural protocol, and shared responsibility.

Our governance ensures that everything we do aligns with our values, our Country, and our people’s future.
